The Creative Whack Pack by Roger von Oech is an oldie but a goodie that's been called "a creative thinking workshop in a box." The Creative Whack Pack is a deck of 64 cards describing different approaches for uncaging our mind and generating fresh perspectives.

A recent study found that 98% of us possess genius level creativity as a child, but by the time we're 20 years old that percentage drops to only 2%. As Buckminister Fuller said, "We are all born geniuses, but the process of living de-geniuses us."

This little yellow box of cards can help us reignite that original creative spark that once came so naturally. Try keeping a deck on your desk and drawing a card at random when you feel stuck and just can't seem to get beyond the familar approaches to challenges.

von Oech also wrote A Kick in the Seat of the Pants and A Whack on the Side of the Head. His titles bring to mind the Mark Twain quote:

"Take your brain out and jump on it - - it gets all caked up."
